Teledermatology is an application of telemedicine and e-health that employs telecommunication technology to allow exchange of medical information concerning skin diseases over a distance using audio, visual and data communication. The main applications of teledermatology include teleconsultation in patient health care managment and continuous education. African developing countries have only a very limited number of qualifies dermatologists. In most of these countries , the majority of skin patients are managed by specially trained paramedical personel. In this setting, teledermatology has the potential to offer a prompt channel for long distance consultation and consequently provide state-of-the-art dermatology to doctors and practitioners as well as paramedical staff, especially those practicing in more remote regions
The program is coordinated by Prof.Dr.Steven Kaddu of the Department of Dermatology, Medical University of Graz, Austria. Main Partners include the Skin Clinic, Mbarara University of Sience and Technology and selected medical staff located at Masaka, Gulu, Kyankwanzi, Butemba HCII ans Hoima Reginal Hospitals.
